Denise Karczewski

Denise Karczewski is an award winning lighting designer from Chicago who has worked as a lighting designer, scenic designer, technical director and educator for the past 30 years.  Selected credits include:  Black Ensemble Theatre: You Can’t Fake the Funk!, Men of Soul, The Time Machine: A Tribute to the 80s, Reasons:  A Tribute to Earth, Wind and Fire, Women of Soul, The Other Cinderella, The Jackie Wilson Story. Porchlight Music Theatre: Fun Home, Pump Boys and Dinettes, Sophisticated Ladies,  A Chorus Line (Jeff nominated), A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, Gypsy, Memphis!,  Billy Elliott (Jeff nomination), In the Heights, Dreamgirls.  Mercury Theater Chicago: Jersey Boys, Lady Day at Emersons Bar and Grill, Big River, Spamalot,  Theo Ubique: Diana, Assassins. Phoenix Theatre Company: Dreamgirls.  Denise was one of the inaugural Rachel Rockwell Fierce Women behind the table honorees in 2019 and has been nominated for 2 Equity Joseph Jefferson awards and 1 non equity Jeff Award, 8 Black Theatre Alliance Awards and 5 Black Excellence awards. When not working in the theatre she can be found baking and spending time with her partner Daryl and their daughter Maya.
